Covering approximately 1334 sq kms, it is a large forest and certainly one with a lot of appeal with its ruins, lakes, forests and a huge banyan tree! Khajuraho is home to tons of temples representing the finest sculptural art and architecture splendor of medieval India.

    Day 14 & 15:
A morning spent admiring the genius of long forgotten sculptors who worked at these temples, before a long drive (9 hour) to Varanasi, reaching by evening to the ‘oldest’ town in the world! Temples worth a visit in Varanasi are Kashi VIshwanath, Kaal Bhairav,
    Durga kund, Nepali Hindu

    Day 2:
Called as the biggest open-air art gallery of the world, the region of Shekhawati is famous for its fabulous mansions decorated with murals on a universe of topics from the divine to mundane. Along with the temples, cenotaphs and stepwells of the region, the beautifully painted Havelis make a visit of Shekhawati memorable.
After an early breakfast we leave for Nawalgarh, 150 kms from Jaipur and a small town founded in 1737 by Thakur Nawal Singh. The Podar Haveli Museum and Morarka Haveli Museum are of note here, besides many others.
Then head to Mandawa, founded in the mid 18 th century. A busy bazaar leads to Mandawa Fort, now a heritage hotel. Of note here are the Murmuria and Goenka double haveli, besides others.
We travel on to Ramgarh. Ramgarh has possibly the best-preserved character of Shekhawati towns. It has a lovely bazaar and nice havelis. Do stop by at the Ram Gopal Poddar Chattri.
We can spend the night at any of these towns, there are nice and characterful hotels, eco-resorts that can be booked.

    Day 3:
The first stop on our journey today is Fatehpur, which has some fine examples of frescos that combine Indian and western styles. Of note among many are the havelis of Ganeriwala, Poddar and Choudhari family and a small haveli converted to a hotel and museum by a French lady - Nadine La Prince!
We travel on towards Bikaner. Founded by Rao Bika in 1488, this town used to lie on ancient trade routes which contributed to its growth and prosperity.
We will travel a little beyond the town today to Deshnok Temple, dedicated to Karni Mata, revered highly in the region. This temple is not for the squeamish, as the entire temple complex is overrun by holy rats! The rats do not harm visitors to the court of their protector Goddess. Look out for a white rat, seeing which is particularly lucky for the beholder!
We also have the more mundane option of visiting camel breeding farm just outside Bikaner. You can see all four breeds of Indian camel, eat an ice cream made from camel milk and visit a small museum.
In the evening, after checking into the hotel, guests can also visit the old city, famed for its havelis and savories! Do try out a few!

    Day 4:
In morning, we see the fabulous and lavishly decorated Junagarh Fort and possibly the museum at Lalgarh Palace (now a luxury hotel, part of the palace holds a museum with one of the largest libraries in the world).
Post lunch, we drive on through the desert to the fairy tale fort of Jaisalmer.
Try to reach Jaisalmer before sundown, to catch a glimpse of the setting sun on the Golden Fort.
Rising like a mirage from the emptiness of desert that envelops it, Jaisalmer is about a millenia old! The royal family that has ruled over the town since its founding, traces its lineage to Lord Krishna. With 99 bastions and its gleaming golden yellow stone, Jaisalmer is a living fort.
Its narrow alleys, beautiful havelis with intricate stonework, the expanse of desert all around will captivate you.
This is a walking town, do take a walk through the fort and town just below the fort to discover your own Jaisalmer. We can also visit the beautiful lake of Gadisar, close to town and the royal cenotaphs at Bada Bagh.

    Day 5:
Jaisalmer is a small town best explored on foot. Roam in the old fort, marvel at the beautiful architecture and amazing stonework. In particular, see the museum inside the fort and Jain Temple.
Take a walk through the back streets to the Patwon ki Haveli and Kothari Haveli.
After lunch proceed to Kuldhera - an abandoned habitation, and then to Sam or Khuri Sand Dunes.
Take a Camel ride and experience the haunting magic of the desert. Guests can also enjoy Rajasthani folk music and dance program that is organized by all resorts in this area, followed by dinner.
If guests have a prior booking, they can stay overnight at these camps, or return to Jaisalmer for the night.

    Day 6:
After early breakfast, leave for Jodhpur, the Sun City.
On the way, we have the chance to see deer, peacocks, antelopes etc. The wildlife that you see here is thanks to the first eco sensible community in the world; The Bishnois live in these parts.
Bishnoi community are pastoralists and they work as per 29 green principles given by their guru. The principles are the first set of codes built around sustainable living, where the community nurtures their environment and protects everything that they share their ecosystem with.
A five-hour journey gets us to the bastion of proud Rathores. Jodhpur.
We visit the beautiful cenotaph at Jaswant Thada and the grandest famine relief work possibly anywhere – the flamboyant Umaid Bhawan Palace.
We can also visit the unique Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park. This is an inspiring story of how a large tract of hilly terrain was restored to its original flora by years of dedicated and inspired work to the verdant beauty of present. It is also a lesson on how important it is to promote the endemic plants of an area. A visit to the park is highly recommended if natural world is of interest to you.
We can also stroll around the traditional markets in clock tower area of the old city.
Overnight stay at Jodhpur. There are many nice hotels and restaurants here for a relaxing evening dinner, after a hard day’s sightseeing.

    Day 7:
Another early start to the day as we climb up in our vehicle towards Mehrangarh Fort. Kipling described the fort as a palace that might have been built by titans, and colored by the morning Sun. It cannot be the work of mere mortals!
Do not miss the views over Jodhpur, and the numerous blue tinged houses in the town from the fort!
After Mehrangarh, we travel on towards the hilly forests and valleys of Mewar.
A five-hour journey takes us to Mt. Abu, Rajasthan’s only hill station; with a break in journey at the beautiful Jain temples at Ranakpur, made out of white marble and famous for its intricate carvings.
Check-in at hotel in Mt. Abu. We then visit Sunset Point and Nakki Lake in the evening.

    Day 8:
Surrounded by forests and built around a lake, Mt. Abu is a relaxed place.
We visit Dilwara Jain Temples, beautifully carved temples in marble, these were built between 11 and 16 th century and Brahma Kumari Ashram. It is a 30-minute tour explains the philosophy behind the movement. After lunch, we leave for Udaipur that lies 3 hours away.
Udaipur is beautiful town with lakes, greenery and white colored buildings.
Enjoy a stroll on the lakefront of Lake Pichola or catch a folk dance show at Bagore ki Haveli in the evening.

    Day 9:
Full day sightseeing of Udaipur city, Venice of the East!
We start by a visit to City Palace and Jagdish Temple. City Palace lies on the east side of Pichola Lake. It exhibits a varied and a rich collection of artefacts such as paintings, sculptures, photographs and more from the medieval period and European era. It also provides spectacular views of Lake Pichola. Built in 1651 by Maharana Jagat Singh, Jagdish temple is a holy shrine of Lord Jagannath, a form of Lord Vishnu. This three-story temple is designed in Indo-Aryan architectural style. The exterior surfaces are intricately carved with scenes from Lord Vishnu’s life.
Built in 1362, Pichola lake is one of the oldest lakes in Udaipur. Built in 1698, Fateh Sagar lake is the second biggest manmade lake in Udaipur and lies beside Moti Magri hill. Built by Rana Sangram Singh in the 18 th century, and close to Fateh sagar is the delightful Saheliyon ki Bari (The pleasure garden of friends). The garden complex is dotted with fountains, pavilions, marble sculptures of elephants, birds and more. Guest can opt for a boat ride at Fateh Sagar Lake, followed by an optional drive up to Sajjangarh Fort. Named after Maharana Sajjan Singh, Sajjangarh fort is a hilltop palace built in the year 1884 and offers beautiful panoramic views of the city, lakes and
    surrounding countryside.
Discover the interesting markets around City Palace in evening. There are many nice restaurants here for dinner.

    Day 10:
We discover the many destinations around Udaipur today, starting with a visit of Eklingji. Mewar considers Eklingji, to me the ruler of Mewar, and the ruling dynasty as custodians. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the original temple was built in the 8 th century by Bappa Rawal, destroyed during invasions and then renovated by Rana Kumbha during 15 th century.
Haldi Ghati derives its name from haldi or turmeric in English, because of the yellow colored soil found in the region, and ghati which means valley. A historic battle was fought in the narrow pass in 1576 between Maharana Pratap, ruler of Udaipur and forces of the Mughal emperor, Akbar. Though the forces of Mewar were no match to the might of an empire, their bravery, valor, and sacrifice has
ensured that this battle lives on in the popular imagination of every Indian.
Sahastrabahu Temple at Nagda, also known as Khajuraho of Rajasthan, due to their ornate carvings.
Nathdwara, the idol of infant Krishna or Srinathji at Nathdwara was rescued from Mathura and brought here. This is an important pilgrimage town. Nathdwara is also famous for Pichwai paintings. Pichwai stands for paintings dedicated to the Lord used as a backdrop behind the idol and depicting scenes from Lord’s life.
We come back to Udaipur by evening.

    Day 11:
We leave after breakfast for the largest fort in the world; Chittorgarh that is about two hours away.
Chittor was the capital of the premier royal household for India, Mewar, for centuries. Despite being in innumerable wars and being sacked many times, it remained the symbol of national identity and pride. Stories of valor and sacrifice, dauntless spirit in face of impossible odds have inspired India for ages. There are many places of note in this huge fort, a few not to be missed include Gaumukh
reservoir, Kirti Stambha (Tower of fame), Jaya Stambha (Tower of Victory), Meera temple, Padmini’s Palace,
    and Suraj Pole.
We stay at Chittor for the night. There are a few heritage hotels nearby Chittor, guests can choose to stay at one. The town of Chittor also has various mid-range / budget hotels.

    Day 12:
After breakfast, we leave Chittor for the land of Hada rajputs – Hadoti! On the way to Bundi, we can stop at the highest waterfalls in Rajasthan at Menal (active in monsoon season).
Rudyard Kipling had said of Bundi ‘the Palace of Bundi, even in broad daylight, is such a palace as men build for themselves in uneasy dreams -- the work of goblins rather than of men’.
On arrival, we check into our hotel. After some rest and lunch, we set out to discover the quaint, sleepy, medieval town.
There are many things of note here, including palaces, stepwells, temples, winding alleyways, blue washed houses, fort and havelis.
We visit the large and pleasing Garh Palace built by Raja Rao Ratan Singh in 17th century. Some of the finest and best-preserved paintings and murals that you can see in Rajasthan, cover walls and ceilings of the Chattra Mahal, Phool Mahal and Badal Mahal in the palace. Just below the Hathi Pol (Elephant gate) of the palace is the Chitrashala, built between the 17th and 18th century with some exquisite murals.
Painted mostly in hues of blues and green, the theme of the paintings are birds, hunting escapades, men and women dancing, court scenes, scenes from the Ramayana, a map of Nathdwara temple, Radha Krishna paintings and more.
You can also visit the small mansion on the banks of pleasant and lotus covered Jait Sagar lake where Kipling is supposed to have written his famous novel – Kim!
Bundi is known as the city of stepwells as there are over 50 in the city and surroundings. The notable ones are Rani ji ki baori, Nagar Sagar Kund and Dhabai Kund.

    Day 13:
Leave early for a four-hour trip to Sawai Madhopur. We have to reach by noon, so that we can check-in to the hotel and have a quick lunch.
Ranthambore: Ranthambore National Park is a large forest and certainly one with a lot of appeal with its ruins, lakes, forests and a huge banyan tree! The magnificent fort after which the park was named overlooks it from atop a hill. The rocks of these ancient hills themselves are a sight to behold!
Ranthambore has perhaps the highest density of tigers in India. Apart from tigers, leopards, striped hyenas, sambar deer, jackals, jungle cats, sloth bears, chinkara, crocodiles, cobras, Indian porcupines and other large variety of wildlife can be spotted in the park.
A govt. approved open to air bus or jeep, our transport for the safari will meet us at hotel (safari needs to be pre booked. We can help you reserve, or you can book directly online) Safari timings are 2:30 pm – sunset.

    Day 14:
Visit the Ranthambhore Wildlife Park early in the morning.
We can opt for a second jungle safari in the morning. Try to get a different route so that you can see another part of the forest today. The timings are 6 am – 9 am.
Safari vehicle will drop you back at hotel. After breakfast, and if the sun is not too hot, your taxi can take you to the foothills of the Ranthambhore Fort. The fort is built atop a hill overlooking the national park. Along with 5 other hill forts from Rajasthan, this fort holds the honor of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A famous temple to Lord Ganesh lies within the fort. Even today, many people send the first invitation of a wedding in their family here, simply addressed to Lord Ganesha, Ranthambhore! The idol here is famous as Trinetra Ganesh ji as the idol has three eyes. The temple is quite old and much revered.
We return to our hotel for lunch before leaving for Jaipur. On the way back, you can stop at Hathi Bhata, or Elephant Rock. This lovely sculpture is standing in the middle of emptiness and does make for a nice picture. Do remember to tell the driver that you would like to visit the rock, so that he takes the right route on the way back!
Return to Jaipur in evening. You can have a relaxing dinner on the last night of our tour at one of the many restaurants that the city has to offer.

    Day 15:
On the last day of the trip, we visit the magnificent Amber Fort close to Jaipur.
Amber Fort: 11 kms from old Jaipur town lays one of the most famous forts of Rajasthan, Amber Fort. 800 years old, the complex has many beautiful buildings such as the ‘Diwan-i-Aam’, ‘Sheesh Mahal’ and even has a different palace for different seasons. The fort also houses the much revered Shila Devi Temple and the magnificent Ganesh Pol, the gate leading to the royal palace complexes. The fort offers elephant rides from the base to fort in morning time and a mesmerizing light and sound show in evening.
Jaigarh Fort: Located on the Cheel ka Tila of the Aravalli range, this battle fort was built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1726 using red sandstones. A unique architectural feature is the underground water reservoir that holds up to 60 million gallons of water. Being a military base, it houses armory of various kinds, now displayed at the museum in fort complex itself. The collection also includes the giant Jaivana cannon, that was cast in the year 1720. It weighs 50 tons and is famous for being the world’s largest canon on wheels.
Visit the beautifully restored Kanak Vrindavan Temple and click an image of the lovely Jal Mahal in the middle of a placid lake before coming back to Jaipur.
Tour ends with fond farewells and a complimentary drop at Jaipur airport / railway station / bus stand in the evening.

Today, we visit the fabled old city of Jaipur also known as the Pink city. The entire walled city is now a proud UNESCO World heritage site, one of the few cities in the world to get this honor! Drive through Johari Bazaar (Jewelers’ market) to Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds).
Visit the City Palace Museum and Jantar Mantar, an ancient observatory with grand instruments that are working and used for traditional astrological calculations. Pay a visit to the Govind Devji Temple, housing the patron deity of Jaipur.

    Day 2:
Depart after an early breakfast to Fatehpur, Shekhawati (3 hours away). Shekhawati is a large region situated between Haryana, Jaipur and Bikaner. This semi-arid region is famous as the largest open-air art gallery in the world. This fame is due to fabulous mansions decorated with murals on a universe of topics from the divine to mundane. Along with the temples, cenotaphs and stepwells, the beautifully painted
havelis are worth a visit. We break our journey at Fatehpur, which has some fine examples of frescos that combine Indian and western styles. Of note among many are the havelis of Ganeriwala, Poddar and Choudhari family and a small haveli converted to a hotel and museum by a French lady - Nadine La Prince!
We can choose to have lunch at Fatehpur, after which we proceed for Bikaner. If we are in time, we can also visit the Camel breeding farm just before Bikaner (open 3 - 5 pm). Bikaner is 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Fatehpur.
    Overnight stay at Bikaner.

    Day 3:
A medieval town founded in 1488, Bikaner used to lie on ancient trade routes. We see the fabulous and lavishly decorated Junagarh Fort and possibly the museum at Lalgarh Palace (now a luxury hotel, part of the palace holds a museum with one of the largest libraries in the world).

    Day 4:

    Day 5:
After early breakfast, leave for Jodhpur, the Sun City.
On the way, we have the chance to see deer, peacocks, antelopes etc. The wildlife that you see here is thanks to the first eco sensible community in the world; The Bishnois live in these parts.
Bishnoi community are pastoralists and they work as per 29 green principles given by their guru. The principles are the first set of codes built around sustainable living, where the community nurtures their environment and protects everything that they share their ecosystem with.
A five-hour journey gets us to the bastion of proud Rathores, Jodhpur.

    Day 6:

    Day 7:
Surrounded by forests and built around a lake, Mt. Abu is a relaxed place.
We visit Dilwara Jain Temples, beautifully carved temples in marble, these were built between 11th and 16th century and Brahma Kumari Ashram.

    Day 8:
Built by Rana Sangram Singh in the 18th century, and close to Fateh sagar is the delightful Saheliyon ki Bari (The pleasure garden of friends). The garden complex is dotted with fountains, pavilions, marble sculptures of elephants,
birds and more. Guest can opt for a boat ride at Fateh Sagar lake, followed by an optional drive up to Sajjangarh Fort. Named after Maharana Sajjan Singh, Sajjangarh fort is a hilltop palace built in the year 1884 and offers beautiful panoramic views of the city, lakes and surrounding countryside.
Discover the interesting markets around City Palace in the evening. There are many nice restaurants here for dinner.

    Day 9:
We now turn back north, on our journey towards Jaipur. On the way, we stop at two important religious towns.
Ajmer, or Ajeya Meru (as it was known many centuries ago) was the capital of the proud and brave Prithvi Raj Chauhan. It is also the resting place for Moinuddin Chishti, a much-revered Sufi saint, mystic and philosopher. We can visit the shrine and the beautiful ruins of Adhai Din ka Jhopda nearby.
Pushkar is among one of the oldest pilgrimage towns of North India. The name means Blue Lotus. Rare, precious, and worthy of reverence! Guest can visit the temple of Lord Brahma, one of the very few that exist anywhere. Why this is so, is an interesting story that you must ask! Being a military base, it houses armory of various kinds, now displayed at the museum in fort complex itself. The collection also includes the giant Jaivana
cannon, that was cast in the year 1720. It weighs 50 tons and is famous for being the world’s largest canon on wheels.

Tales of The Thar

Explore the haunting beauty of Thar Desert and its medieval marvels

Duration - 7 Days / 6 Nights

Tour starts from Jaipur

  • Places Covered

Jaipur, Fatehpur, Shekhawati, Bikaner, Jaiselmer, Jodhpur, Ajmer and Pushkar

  • Itinerary

    Day 1:
Arrival at Jaipur. Pickup from airport / railway station / bus stand at Jaipur by placard carrying driver and transfer to Hotel.
Suggestions for evening include shopping at the bazaars of Jaipur / a superb light and sound show at Amber Fort / sunset from Nahargarh Fort overlooking Jaipur / Rajasthani food and folk culture at Chokhi Dhani Resort.

    Day 2:
After breakfast, we travel north-west from Jaipur, through the semi arid region of Shekhawati. Shekhawati is famous as the largest open-air art gallery in the world. Small towns with intricately decorated mansions, step wells and cenotaphs make the area unique. We will stop to see a few of these mansions at Fatehpur on the way.
The ride from Jaipur to Bikaner is about 5 hours, plus the stop over at Fatehpur and another possibly for lunch. Just before we enter Bikaner, we will visit a unique farm: The famous Camel-breeding Farm (open 3 – 5 pm). See a small museum here, eat a camel milk ice cream and look at the various species of camel that are reared here. You can also take a camel ride on the dunes if you want.
After our time with the Ships of Desert, we drive on to the city of Bikaner.
    Check-in at hotel in Bikaner.

    Day 3:
A medieval town founded in 1488, Bikaner used to lie on ancient trade routes. We see the fabulous and lavishly decorated Junagarh Fort and the museum at Lalgarh Palace (with one of the largest libraries in the world).
Post lunch, we drive on through the desert to the fairy tale fort of Jaisalmer.
Try to reach Jaisalmer before sundown, to catch a glimpse of the setting sun on the Golden Fort.
Rising like a mirage from the emptiness of desert that envelops it, Jaisalmer is an old town. It was established in 1156 AD!

    Day 4:
Amongst many places of note to see at Jaisalmer town, we will suggest you try to cover those that you find more appealing in your half day of discovering the town before we travel towards an evening on the dunes.
Jaisalmer Fort Palace Museum: Towering over the main square, is the former palace of royal family, parts of which are now also a museum open to public.
Jain Temples: As the lanes wind upwards within the fort, you will come across seven beautifully carved and interconnected Jain Temples. The temples are open only from 8 am to 12 non for non-Jains. Besides the intricate designs, the temples also have a basement library where ancient texts of Jain religion are stored, safe in the dry climate of Jaisalmer from centuries!
The Haveli mansions of Jaisalmer: The Havelis of Jaisalmer are renowned for their beauty. Amongst many, of note are the Baa ki haveli, Patwon ki Haveli and Nathmal Ki Haveli.
After lunch we proceed to Kuldhara, an abandoned village with an interesting, albeit sad story!
Jaisalmer state was home to the industrious Paliwal Brahmin community. They lived in many villages including Kuldhara. Through their enterprise and wisdom, they farmed the desert soil and brought riches to their community and Jaisalmer. Suddenly, the community deserted their home of centuries and went away, no one knows for sure where! The folk lore says this happened because of an evil prime minister of the state, some scholars say it happened due to depleting water and yet others blame an earthquake. Whatever the reason might be, they left behind ruins that are hauntingly evocative. We will visit Kuldhara before driving on through Desert National Park to Khuri, a village in the middle of rolling sand dunes.
Take a Camel Ride and experience the haunting magic of the tale of Dhola Maru, our desert Romeo and Juliet. After the camel ride, we can enjoy a Rajasthani folk dance and music show at one of the resorts here, along with dinner. We can spend the night here at Khuri in a resort (if we have prior booking) or return to Jaisalmer for the night.

    Day 5:
After early breakfast, leave for Jodhpur, the Sun City.
On the way, we have the chance to see deer, peacocks, antelopes etc. The wildlife that you see here is thanks to the first eco sensible community in the world; The Bishnois, live in these parts.
Bishnoi community are pastoralists and they work as per 29 green principles given by their guru. The principles are the first set of codes built around sustainable living, where the community nurtures their environment and protects everything that they share their ecosystem with.
A five-hour journey gets us to the bastion of proud Rathores. Jodhpur. The city lies in the protective shadow of Mehrangarh or the Sun Fort (Mihir Garh). Kipling described the fort as a Palace that might have been built by titans, and colored by the morning Sun. It cannot be the work of mere mortals!
We see the fort as well as the cenotaph at Jaswant Thada and the grandest famine relief work possibly anywhere – the flamboyant Umaid Bhawan Palace.
Do not miss the view of Jodhpur city and lovely blue tinged house from the fort.
Overnight stay at Jodhpur. There are many nice hotels and restaurants here for a relaxing evening dinner, after a hard day’s sightseeing.

    Day 6:
We now turn back east, on our journey towards Jaipur.
Guest can also visit the bathing ghats at holy lake and see the colorful bazaars here.
We can have lunch at Pushkar. Another 2 hours journey from Pushkar will get us by evening to Jaipur, where we stay tonight.

    Day 7:
On the last day of the trip, we visit the magnificent Amber Palace and fort close to Jaipur.
The fort also offers elephant rides from the base to fort in morning time and a mesmerizing light and sound show in evening.
The collection also includes the giant Jaivana
cannon, that was cast in the year 1720. It weighs 50 tons and is famous for being the world’s largest canon on wheels.
Visit the beautifully restored Kanak Vrindavan Temple and click an image of the lovely Jal Mahal in the middle of a placid lake before coming back to Jaipur.

  • Itinerary

    Day 1:
Arrival at Jaipur. Pickup from airport / railway station / bus stand at Jaipur by placard carrying driver and transfer to Hotel.

Suggestions for evening include shopping at the bazaars of Jaipur / a superb light and sound show at Amber Fort / sunset from Nahargarh Fort overlooking Jaipur / Rajasthani food and folk culture at Chokhi Dhani Resort.

    Day 2:
We leave Jaipur after an early breakfast, travelling to Abhaneri, our first stop for the day.
Abhaneri is home to the spectacular Chand Baori. It is believed to have been built in 10 th century by Raja Chand. It is one of the largest stepwells in the world and has 3500 steps and 13 floors. The water is surrounded by stairs on three sides while the fourth side is a three-story pavilion with carved jharokhas and two balconies enshrining beautiful sculptures, built much later. Besides the step well, Abhaneri also has the 1000 plus year old Harshatmata temple. Once covered in a mud hill the temple was excavated and you can still see numbered blocks lying around the main temple, blocks that are yet to be put together in this puzzle old as time.
Step wells or baori were not just wells but the center of community life in olden days. These are massive structures, cool and inviting in hot summer days and beautifully decorated.
We travel on to Bharatpur, reaching by lunch time. After checking into our hotel and a quick lunch we travel to Deeg (1 hour away), famous for its Water Palaces. Deeg was the capital of Jat kingdom. As the Mughal empire was crumbling, the Jats established a powerful kingdom in this area. The beautiful water palaces at Deeg seem to float in water. Off the beaten track, in a small dusty town, the palaces here are worth the trouble.
    or
The other option is easier. We can rest for a while at our hotel before taking an evening ride inside Bharatpur’s famous bird sanctuary. Entry to the bird park, transport and guide fee is extra. You can hire a trained rickshaw puller who can show you the different birds and animals of the park (Entrance, rickshaw transport and guide fees in the park are extra).

    Day 3:
Morning visit of the Bird Sanctuary. The protected wetlands of Keoladeo National Park are a World Heritage Site and a great place to see winter migratory birds. The available mode of conveyance in the park, a rickshaw ride, takes about 4 hours to complete. Mornings are the best time.
After breakfast, we travel onwards to Fatehpur Sikri (the city of victory). Fatehpur was built by Akbar as the capital of his empire. Like the ruler, the city too merged elements from Hindu as well as Muslim architecture. The site was chosen as Sikri was the residing place of Sheikh Salim Chisti, who was revered by Akbar. The Emperor credited the Sufi saint for the gift of his son, named after the saint, Salim. A grand doorway, Buland Darwaza welcomes guests to the sufi saint’s resting place. Before visiting Sikri, do visit the capital of Fatehpur (both are adjacent). Beware of a crowd of fake guides, beggers, sellers and shopkeepers that make visiting Sikri an adventure.
The abandoned capital is a sight to behold and a world Heritage site, designated by UNESCO.
An hour’s journey from here would take us to Agra, reaching by evening.
There are many restaurants here. Guests are advised to take the taxi while going out of their hotel here. Agra is chaotic and can be taxing on the nerves, with touts, sellers and general chaos, that here is more than at other cities in India!

    Day 4:
Agra local tour and drive back to Jaipur.
Catch sunrise at the Poetry in white marble that is the Taj Mahal. The crowning glory of Mughal architecture.
Rabindra Nath Tagore described Taj Mahal as ‘a teardrop on the cheek of eternity’. Built by Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz, this mausoleum marks the most developed stage of Mughal architecture. Construction began in 1632 and it took more than 20,000 craftsmen to complete this masterpiece. The main building along with its four minarets, stands on a white marble platform flanked by Mughal charbagh design garden divided by water channels. Koranic inscriptions adorn the main arch on the façade. Its rich carvings are a source of play of light and shadow and intricate inlay work using semi-precious stones stands in contrast
to the white of the marble. The overall design is rich, yet minimal and draws the visitor’s attention to the sheer purity and perfection of Taj Mahal’s architectural planning.
After breakfast, we travel on to see the other significant Mughal monument at Agra; the Red Fort. Lunch is next, and then travel back towards Jaipur, reaching by evening.
We suggest dining out at one of the many restaurants that Jaipur has to offer.

    Day 5:
On the last day of the trip, we visit the magnificent Amber Fort close to Jaipur.
Amber Fort: 11 kms from old Jaipur town lays one of the most famous forts of Rajasthan, Amber Fort. 800 years old, the complex has many beautiful buildings such as the ‘Diwan-i-Aam’, ‘Sheesh Mahal’ and even has a different palace for different seasons. The fort also houses the much revered Shila Devi Temple and the magnificent Ganesh Pol, the gate leading to the royal palace complexes. The fort also offers elephant rides from the base to fort in morning time and a mesmerizing light and sound show in evening.

Wild wonders of Rajasthan

The wild splendor of Aravalli mountains and the best of Rajput and Mughal monuments

Duration - 5 Days / 4 Nights

Tour starts from Jaipur

  • Places Covered

Jaipur, Ranthambhore National Park, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Abhaneri stepwell

  • Itinerary

    Day 1:
Arrival at Jaipur. Pickup from airport / railway station / bus stand at Jaipur by placard carrying driver and transfer to Hotel.
Suggestions for evening include shopping at the bazaars of Jaipur / a superb light and sound show at Amber Fort / sunset from Nahargarh Fort overlooking Jaipur / Rajasthani food and folk culture at Chokhi Dhani Resort.

    Day 2:
Ranthambore: Located 4 hours away from Jaipur, Ranthambore National Park is situated at the junction of the Aravali and Vindhyan hills. Covering approximately 1334 sq kms, it is a large forest and certainly one with a lot of appeal with its ruins, lakes, forests and a huge banyan tree!
This 3 – 4 hours journey should get us to Sawai Madhopur latest by 1 pm. Check in at hotel, followed by a quick lunch and some rest would mean we are ready for the jungle safari by 2 pm. A govt. approved open to air bus or jeep, our transport for the safari will meet us at hotel (safari needs to be pre booked. We can help you reserve, or you can book directly online). Safari timings are 2:30 pm – sunset.
Overnight stay at hotel / resort in Sawai Madhopur.

    Day 3:
We return to our hotel for lunch before leaving for Bharatpur, about 3 - 4 hours away, reaching by evening.

    Day 4:
We visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Keoladeo National Park at sunrise.
The protected wetlands of Keoladeo National Park are a great place to see winter migratory birds. The available mode of conveyance in the park, a rickshaw ride, takes about 4 hours to complete.
    Depart for Jaipur after breakfast.
Visit Abhaneri on the way, home to the spectacular Chand Baori. Once covered in a mud hill the temple was excavated and you can still see numbered blocks lying around the main temple, blocks that are yet to be put together in this puzzle as old as time.
Step wells or baori were not just wells but the center of community life in olden days. These are massive structures, cool and inviting in hot summer days and beautifully decorated.
If time and energy levels permit, you can also visit the deserted, and supposedly haunted, medieval town of Bhangarh, presumably the most haunted place of India. Bhangarh was once a thriving town with a fort, palace, temples and a lively bazaar. Folk lore says this place is cursed by a jilted sorcerer who loved and was rejected by a princess. The ruins are very evocative, and the story attached to the empty buildings does make it a bit spooky!
    Overnight stay at Jaipur.

    Day 5:

We had such fun with Madhuri, an exceptionally patient and lovely instructor who taught us three really fun dances. Despite the lack of experience we had, we came out of the class laughing and leaving with dance routines to show to our friends and family! Definitely worth it and was for sure a highlight of our trip!

Tanya

Greetings from all of us at Arya Niwas. Thank you for the feedback and for your kind words! It is nice to know that you liked bollywood dance class. I will passon your feedback to our dance instructor. Hope to see you again.
