    Bharatpur: Keoladeo National Park
    Fatehpur Sikri
    Agra: Taj Mahal

  • Itinerary

Jaipur: Built by the visionary king Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur is a relatively young city, just 300 years old! Work started on the city in 1727, and the brilliant team that the king had put together meant that the first planned city of Medieval India was a breathtakingly beautiful amalgamation of Rajput and Muslim architectural styles. Built as per ancient Hindu treatise of vastu shastra, Jaipur became a welcome abode for skilled craftsmen & businessmen from all over the crumbling Mughal Empire, who found a safe, well planned and administered city to live and do trade in. Jaipur remains a vibrant and much-loved city today. The entire walled city was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2019!

    Day 1:
Arrive at Jaipur in morning. Jaipur is well connected with major cities of India. Our driver greets you at Jaipur airport / railway station / bus stand for transfer to hotel. After check-in and breakfast, we set out to see the magnificent forts of Jaipur.

Amber Fort: 11 kms from old Jaipur town lies one of the most famous forts of Rajasthan, Amber Fort. 800 years old, the complex has many beautiful buildings such as the ‘Diwan-i-Aam’, ‘Sheesh Mahal’ and even has a different palace for different seasons. The fort also houses the much revered Shila Devi Temple and the magnificent Ganesh Pol, the gate leading to the royal palace complexes. The fort also offers elephant rides from the base to fort in morning time and a mesmerizing light and sound show in evening.

Jaigarh Fort: Located on the Cheel ka Tila of the Aravalli range, this battle fort was built by Maharaja Jai Singh in 1726 using red sandstones. A unique architectural feature is the underground water reservoir that holds upto 60 million gallons of water. Being a military base, it houses armory of various kinds, now displayed at the museum in fort complex itself. The collection also includes the giant Jaivana cannon, that was cast in the year 1720. It weighs 50 tons and is famous for being the world’s largest canon on wheels.

Sunset from the ramparts of Nahargarh Fort: Catch the views of Jaipur as the sun sets over the city of Sawai Jai Singh II from ‘Tiger Fort’. On the way back to city, click an image of the lovely Jal Mahal in the middle of a placid lake.

We drive back to hotel via the city, looking at the beautifully lit Albert Hall on the way. There are many restaurants in Jaipur where you can ask the driver to take you for a meal. We recommend a Rajasthani thali at our own Hotel Arya Niwas.

    Day 2:
An early breakfast and we set out to discover the famed Pink City of India, Jaipur. In 2019, the entire walled city was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site! We drive through Johari Bazaar, the old jeweler’s market to Hawa Mahal also known as the Palace of Winds. We then visit City Palace Museum, its collection consists of Rajasthani costumes, armory, miniature paintings, carpets, rare astronomical instruments and more. Visit Jantar Mantar, an ancient observatory after the museum. It has Samrat Yantra which is the largest sundial in the world.

We leave Jaipur by noon for a 3-hour drive to Fatehpur Sikri. Fatehpur was built by Akbar as the capital of his empire. Like the ruler, the city too merged elements from Hindu as well as Muslim architecture. The site was chosen as Sikri was the residing place of Sheikh Salim Chisti, who was revered by Akbar. A grand doorway, Buland Darwaza welcomes guests to the final resting place of the saint. Before visiting Sikri, do visit the capital of Fatehpur (both are adjacent). Beware of a crowd of fake guides, beggars, sellers, and shopkeepers that make visiting Sikri an adventure. The abandoned capital is a sight to behold and a world Heritage site, designated by UNESCO.

We stay at Bharatpur tonight, reaching by evening.

    Day 3:
Early morning visit to the famed Keoladeo National Park at sunrise. It is recognized as one of the world’s most important breeding and feeding grounds for wetland birds. In 1985, UNESCO listed the national park as a World Heritage Site. The park is home to over 370 species of birds. We suggest hiring a rickshaw here. The rickshaw pullers have been trained in bird watching and they make for extremely knowledgeable guides. After a rewarding couple of hours spent at park, we return to hotel for breakfast. We try to leave the hotel by 10 - 11 am for an hour’s journey to the high point on our star-studded tour – The Taj!

Rabindra Nath Tagore described Taj Mahal as ‘a teardrop on the cheek of eternity’.
Built by Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz, this mausoleum marks the most developed stage of Mughal architecture. Construction began in 1632 and it took more than 20,000 craftsmen to complete this masterpiece. The main building along with its four minarets stands on a white marble platform flanked by Mughal charbagh design garden divided by water channels. Koranic inscriptions adorn the main arch on the façade. Its rich carvings are a source of play of light and shadow and intricate inlay work using semi-precious stones stands in contrast to the white of the marble. The overall design is rich, yet minimal and draws the visitor’s attention to the sheer purity and perfection of Taj Mahal’s architectural planning.

In evening, we have the option of either returning to Jaipur with the taxi car (5 hour journey from Taj Mahal) or catching an evening train back home. Our driver will be happy to drop you at the station.

Desert Symphony

‘The Golden Fort’ of Jaisalmer is a celebration of beauty in the middle of seemingly empty and forbidding sands

Duration - 3 Days / 2 Nights

Jaisalmer is connected by train/air to Jaipur / Jodhpur / Delhi. The nearest big town by road is Jodhpur, 5 hours away. We can arrange for a car to pick-up guest from Bikaner / Jodhpur / Jaipur

  • Places Covered
Jaisalmer, Kuldhara, Sand dunes at Sam / Khuri and Hamira

  • Itinerary

Jaisalmer: Rising like a mirage from the emptiness of desert that envelops it, Jaisalmer is an old town. It was established in 1156 AD. The royal family traces its lineage to Lord Krishna. With 99 bastions and its gleaming golden yellow stone, Jaisalmer is a living fort. Its narrow alleys, beautiful havelis with intricate stonework, the expanse of desert all around will captivate you. There is much to do in and around this desert jewel. Our suggestions for a memorable holiday are given below:

    Day 1:
Driver meets guest at Jaisalmer airport / railway station / bus stand for transfer to hotel. After checking in and some rest we set out to discover the Golden city of Jaisalmer. We start our tour by visiting the beautiful Haveli mansions of Jaisalmer. We visit the Patwon ki Haveli (Do visit the Kothari Patwon ki Haveli Museum in one of the 5 sections of the larger haveli) and the Nathmal ki Haveli. We can also visit the Thar Heritage Museum.

We then visit the beautiful lake of Gadisar, close to town and the beautiful Jain temples at Lodurva, dating to the 16 th century. As evening falls, we move towards the royal cenotaphs at Bada Bagh, to catch a magical sunset as the rays of setting Sun turn the yellow fort into gold!

There are many restaurants and hotels in town for dinner. Driver will be happy to take you at one of your choice.

    Day 2:
The first half of our day is for the fort and town of Jaisalmer. Amongst many places of note to see at Jaisalmer town, we will suggest you try to cover those that you find more appealing before we travel after lunch towards an evening on the dunes.

Jaisalmer Fort Palace Museum: Towering over the main square, is the former palace of royal family, parts of which are now also a museum open to public.
Jain Temples: As the lanes wind upwards within the fort, you will come across seven beautifully carved and interconnected Jain Temples. The temples are open only from 8 am to 12 noon for non-Jains. Besides the intricate designs, the temples also have a basement library where ancient texts of Jain religion are stored, safe in the dry climate of Jaisalmer from centuries!
Baa ki haveli with its interesting museum.
Jaisalmer is a walkable town, stroll through its lanes and alleys to discover your own Jaisalmer!

After lunch we proceed to Kuldhara, an abandoned village with an interesting, albeit sad story!
Jaisalmer state was home to the industrious Paliwal Brahmin community. They lived in many villages including Kuldhara. Through their enterprise and wisdom, they farmed the desert soil and brought riches to their community and Jaisalmer. Suddenly, the community deserted their home of centuries and went away, no one knows for sure where! The folk lore says this happened because of an evil prime minister of the state, some scholars say it happened due to depleting water and yet others blame an earthquake. Whatever the reason might be, they left behind ruins that are hauntingly evocative.

We will visit Kuldhara before driving on through Desert National Park to Khuri, a village in the middle of rolling sand dunes. (Sam is another village on a different road. If guest have a booking at Sam, we can also
proceed to Sam after Kuldhara). Take a camel ride and experience the haunting magic of the tale of Dhola Maru, our desert Romeo and Juliet. After the camel ride, we enjoy a Rajasthani folk dance and music show at our resorts, along with dinner. Night stay at resort is recommended.

A night jeep ride into the desert national park is also an option. We can see antelope, foxes, reptiles and a fabulously lit up sky. The stars of a desert night are many times brighter than it I ever possible in a city!

    Day 3:
Guest can opt for a morning jeep ride on the dunes. We return to Jaisalmer after breakfast.
We visit the Jaisalmer War Museum today. Jaisalmer is an important Army station, and the border with Pakistan is only a couple of hours away. Many important wars and memorable victories have taken place in this sector. This museum is in celebration of the bravery of our soldiers.

We can also opt for a memorable visit to a uniquely gifted family of Manganiyar musicians at the village of Hamira, close to the war museum. Manganiyar community are world famous today for their wonderful music. Kamaicha is a traditional string instrument of the Manganiyars. Unfortunately, there are few makers and players of this instrument today. The family we meet today have kept the tradition of playing on Kamaicha alive. As you spend time with them, you will realize the deep understanding and passion that they have for their music and traditions. As you hear them play the Kamaicha and sing, you will realise why it is so important to promote and preserve this wonderful music (The visit to Hamira has to be pre booked, before tour starts. Charges for the visit are payable extra)

Tour ends with fond farewells with a drop to Jaisalmer airport / railway station / bus stand. If guest wants, we can also arrange a drop to Jodhpur / Bikaner by taxi.

Jodhpur Joy

‘A palace that might have been built by Titans and coloured by the morning sun.’ – Kipling on Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort

Duration - 3 Days / 2 Nights

Jodhpur is well connected by train/air to Jaipur/Delhi/ Mumbai and other cities of India. It is 5 hrs. away from Jaipur by road.

  • Places Covered
Jodhpur, Bishnoi VIllages, Pushkar and Ajmer

  • Itinerary

Jodhpur: Rao Jodha started building the Sun Fort or Mihir Garh at these brooding craggy hills in 1459. Situated on important trade routes, the city prospered and became home to the mighty Rathore clan, along with Bikaner that was established soon after. Jodhpur is a gentle mannered, lively city today.

    Day 1:
Our driver meets guest for pickup from Jodhpur railway station / bus stand / airport and transfer to hotel.
After breakfast, we visit the grandiose Mehrangarh Fort. Perched up top of a perpendicular cliff, its foundations were laid by Rao Jodha.
Various successors added to the original structure due to which varied building styles are reflected in the building. The fort complex has a museum, fine architecture, delicately carved stone lattice windows, museum shop, temples, and cafes. The museum collections comprise of armoury, miniature paintings, textiles and headgear, cradles of royal princes, howdahs, wall paintings based on classical ragas etc. Do not forget to look at the majestic views over the city from fort’s ramparts. You will find many houses in the old city painted a lovely shade of blue. These houses primarily belong to the Brahmin community, getting Jodhpur the sobriquet of Blue City!

Next on the list is the beautifully made cenotaph of Jaswant Thada built in the Jaswant Singh II by Maharaja Sardar Singhji in the year 1899.

We travel on to the fabulously made Umaid Bhawan, perhaps the most extravagant famine relief project in history! A part of the palace is open to guests as a museum showcasing a history of Umaid Bhawan’s construction process, pictures of the palace and the Jodhpur royal family, vintage cars, and unique clocks collection and more.

In the evening, guests can visit the colorful bazaars around clock tower. The area also has some nice hotels and restaurants, stepwells, and reservoir. We also have the option of hiring a guide for a 2-3 hours walking tour through old Jodhpur.

    Day 2:
There are three great options that we can suggest:

Option 1: Day trip to Khichan and Osiyan
An early morning 3-hour drive will take us to Khichan. Thousands of Demoiselle cranes, migratory birds like ducks, teal and other waders visit Khichan in winter months. It is surreal to see cranes on the rolling dunes and small lakes in area. The cranes have started wintering here due to the protection and feed from local Jain community. Guest should start early, around 6 am to reach by 9 am at Khichan. The best time to see birds is around 9 – 10 am when they are fed. A packed breakfast is advised.

After Khichan, guests can travel to Osiyan that is 90 minutes drive from Khichan towards Jodhpur. Osiyan, was an important trading center dating back to Gupta dynasty and a stronghold of the affluent Jain community. They have left behind a legacy of lovingly sculpted and well-preserved temples. Mahavir temple and Sachiya Mata temple complex are of note here. The town is well worth a visit.

Option 2: Day trip to Nagaur
    Nagaur
is 2 and half hours from Jodhpur. An early morning trip can be planned. Places to see at Nagaur are the old battle fort of Ahhichatragarh that has undergone a UNESCO award winning restoration. The fort has many things of interest including an ingenious system of ducts that brought water to the palace of Abha Mahal. There is an interesting Jain glass temple and the cenotaph of Amar Singh Rathore, a folk hero too in town! We return by evening back to Jodhpur.

Option 3: Osiyan and Mandore gardens
If Khichan sounds too early and far way, guest can also choose to do a half day trip to Osiyan alone. Which means we come back by afternoon to Jodhpur. In evening, we can visit the pleasant Mandore Gardens in the evening. Mandore was the capital of the region before Jodhpur was built, and has a collection of temples, cenotaphs of Jodhpur Royals, a park, a ‘hall of heroes’ and high rock terraces as its attractions.

    Day 3:
There are two great early morning activities that we can suggest:

Option 1: Visit the unique Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park!
This large park in the shadow of Mehrangarh has been creatively and painstakingly developed over the years. The invasive plant species were taken out and local flora was reintroduced, which in turn led to a profusion of insects, birds, reptiles that belong to this region. Today it is a great example of how rich and diverse rock desert areas can be and the reason of saving them from destruction and invasive species.

Option 2: Zip lining with Flying Fox over walls, bastions, and lake on the northern side of Mehrangarh.

After breakfast, we leave for a half day excursion to villages of the Bishnoi community. This pastoralist community lives by 29 tenets of eco logically sustainable lifestyle where every living thing that the community shares space with; is protected, respected and nurtured. We visit a village and learn about their inspiring way of living. It is common to find deer, peacocks, many bird species etc. roaming fearlessly in the village. We also visit local craftsmen, including potters, block printing centers and more. Lunch can be had at the village.
Transport to village is included, visit charges including guide fee and lunch are payable extra.

Our tour ends with the drive back to Jodhpur reaching by late afternoon. Driver can drop guests to hotel / Jodhpur airport / railway station / bus stand. Guest also have the option of driving on towards Bikaner / Pushkar / Jaipur / Jaisalmer. The city transfers are not included in transportation cost and are extra.

    Day 2:
We have two options, both equally promising to choose from for a day trip today:

Option 1: Haldi Ghati, Eklingji, Sahastrabahu temples at Nagda and Nathdwara.
Haldi Ghati, situated 40 kms away from Udaipur, this was the place where a historic battle was fought in 1576 between Maharana Pratap, ruler of Udaipur and forces of the Mughal emperor, Akbar.
Eklingji is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Eklingji is revered as the real rules of Mewar, the Sisodia Dynasty being considered as its custodians, ruling on behalf of Eklingji. It is a fortified temple complex with ancient history.
Close to Eklingji, lies the ancient capital of Nagda, with the delightfully ornate, intricately carved temples of Sahastrabahu or Saas Bahu as they are called popularly. Nathdwara is the abode of infant Lord Krishna, called as Srinathji.

The stories of impossible bravery, chivalry and sacrifice at Chittor have inspired generations of Indians. It was attacked innumerable times, many times Chittor won, other times it was defended to the last man; but it never bowed down. Amongst the many monuments inside the fort, Vijay Stambh, Padmini’s Palace, Gaumukh reservoir and Meera Bai’s temple are the more important ones.
We return by evening to Udaipur.

Jaipur and Beyond

Explore Jaipur as well as the delightful places of interest around the city.

Duration - 3 Days / 2 Nights

Tour starts from Jaipur, well connected to all major Indian cities by road, rail and flight

  • Places Covered
Jaipur, Ajmer and Pushkar / Sariska and Siliseth / Shekhawati / Khatu Shyam and Salasar Ji

For us, the team at Tours 2 Rajasthan, it is our beloved home. We invite you to Jaipur as a valued guest. Come discover the charms of our hometown along with us!

    Day 1:
Pickup from Jaipur airport / railway station / bus stand by our driver and transfer to hotel. After check-in, some rest, and a quick lunch later, we start our tour with the famed walled city of Jaipur. We drive through Johari Bazaar, the old jeweler’s market to Hawa Mahal also known as the Palace of Winds. We then visit City Palace Museum, its collection consists of Rajasthani costumes, armory, miniature paintings, carpets, rare astronomical instruments and more. We also visit Jantar Mantar, an ancient observatory after the museum. It has Samrat Yantra which is the largest sundial in the world. We can also choose to pay a visit to the Govind Devji Temple, housing the patron deity of Jaipur.

We can return to the hotel for some rest before we set out again for an enjoyable evening. Options include:

Option 1: Visit the lovely Albert Hall Museum and dinner at Masala Chowk nearby. Albert Hall was built to honor the visit by Prince Albert in colonial times. It is a beautiful building designed by Sir Swinton Jacob. Today it is the state museum and amongst other things, houses an Egyptian Mummy with its X-Ray! Masala Chowk is a collection of famous eateries from the lanes of walled city. You can enjoy their traditional fare in an open air, clean environment.

Option 2: Visit the beautiful Birla Temple and drive on to the famous resort of Chokhi Dhani. Extremely popular with Indian families, Chokhi Dhani is built over a large area and offers folk music, dance and entertainments, camel rides, village architecture and rustic food.

Option 3: Spend a pleasant evening in the busy bazaars of Pink City and shop for its many arts / crafts!

Option 4: You can always just take it easy and enjoy a quiet dinner at hotel or one of the many restaurants / bars that the city has to offer.

    Day 2:
An early breakfast and we leave for one of the many day trips given below, as we discover the many places of interest around Jaipur.

    Option 1: Ajmer & Pushkar
Ajmer is the home to world famous dargah (final resting place) of Sheikh Moinuddin Chisti, a much-revered Sufi saint, mystic and philosopher. We can also see the ruins of Adhai Din ka Jhopra that lie close by and Ana Sagar lake

After visiting Ajmer, we travel on towards Pushkar (which translates to The Blue Lotus). Pushkar has a holy lake with bathing ghats and a temple dedicated to the God of Creation, Lord Brahma (who has very few temples dedicated to him. Why, is an interesting story to find out!) Spend an hour or so in the colorful bazaars at Pushkar, before returning to Jaipur, reaching by evening.

    Option 2: Abhaneri and Bhangarh
Bhangarh: Some 80 kms from the city of Jaipur lies presumably the most haunted place of India, Bhangarh! Once a thriving town with a large bazaar, battlements, place, temples and a population of thousands; the ruins cover a large area even today. The town was deserted for reasons unknown, though folk lore attributes it to the curse of a jilted lover. It is a great place with a better story; that your guide will be happy to share as you stroll through the ruins.

Abhaneri: Equally evocative is the town of Abhaneri that has one of the largest stepwells in the world, Chand Baori, with 3500 steps and 13 floors. Besides the step well, Abhaneri also has the 1000 plus year old Harshatmata temple. Once covered in a mud hill the temple was excavated and you can still see numbered blocks lying around the main temple, blocks that are yet to be put together in this puzzle old as time.

    Option 3: Shekhawati
A large area situated between Haryana, Jaipur and Bikaner; this semi-arid region is famous as the largest open-air art gallery in the world! Fabulously painted frescoes decorate the grand havelis or mansions dotting its various towns like Mandawa, Nawalgarh, Ramgarh and
Fatehpur, along with impressive temples, rest houses, stepwells, and cenotaphs. We can visit a few towns and admire the built heritage as well as enjoy the pleasant drive through countryside with its farms, rolling dunes, peacocks, birds and the odd antelope.

Option 4: Khatu Shyam and SalasarJi
Famous pilgrimage centers that are much revered by the local inhabitants as well as its diaspora around the world. We return to Jaipur by evening. If we have the time and energy, we can go for a lovely light and sound show at Amber Fort in evening.

    Day 3:
On the last day of the trip, we visit the magnificent Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort close to Jaipur.

Amber Fort: 11 kms from old Jaipur town lays one of the most famous forts of Rajasthan, Amber Fort.

A unique architectural feature is the underground water reservoir that holds up to 20 million liters of water. Being a military
base, it houses armory of various kinds, now displayed at the museum in fort complex itself. The collection also includes the giant Jai Van cannon, that was cast in the year 1720. It weighs 50 tons and is famous for being the world’s largest canon on wheels.

Visit the beautifully restored Kanak Vrindavan Temple and click an image of the lovely Jal Mahal in the middle of a placid lake before coming back to Jaipur.

Tour ends with fond farewells and a complimentary drop at Jaipur airport / railway station / bus stand in the evening.

Relax after check in. We start the tour after lunch, around 1:30 pm. Discover the medieval forts around Jaipur today.

We visit the battle fort of Jaigarh. Sitting over a low hill behind Amber, Jaigarh has nice views of the hills behind, an old cannon foundry and the World’s Largest Cannon on wheels, the Jai Van! Jaigarh is also worth visiting for the intricate water collection system that fed an underground reservoir with more than 20 million liters of water!
After Jaigarh we drive through the forested hills full of peacocks, partridges and the odd Blue bull to Nahargarh Fort for a memorable view of Jaipur town that lies below at sunset.
As evening calm descends over the hills, we drive to Amber Fort for a lovely light and sound show. After the show is over, we head back to city for dinner at one of the many restaurants in city. You can try out the traditional Rajasthani thali at Arya Niwas too.

    Day 2:
We discover the magic of Jaipur, the city built by a remarkable king, warrior, politician, astronomer and dare I say dreamer; Sawai Jai Singh Ji the second.

We can start the day early today with two options, both unique and off the regular tourist trail.
Option 1: Visit Govind Devji (Lord Krishna) temple in morning for a mesmerizing morning aarti of the patron lord of Jaipur. Legend has it that the idol residing here was made by Lord Krishna’s great grandson, Vajranabh himself.
Option 2: Early morning drive through walled city to the footsteps of Garh Ganesh followed by a hike up steep stone stairs to a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh on top of a small hill. The idol of Lord Ganesh here is of the child lord, without the elephant trunk that the lord is more recognized by! A story of how the child lord went on to acquire the trunk is interesting and worth asking your driver! As we come down from Garh Ganesh, we can also visit the royal cenotaphs at Gaitore that lie just below.
We return to the hotel for breakfast.
Next on our discovery list is the famed walled city of Jaipur. We drive through Johari Bazaar, the old jeweler’s market to Hawa Mahal also known as the Palace of Winds. We then visit City Palace Museum, its collection consists of Rajasthani costumes, armory, miniature paintings, carpets, rare astronomical instruments and more. We also visit Jantar Mantar, an ancient observatory with astrological instruments that are still in use and give accurate readings, including the Samrat Yantra which is the largest sundial in the world.

We return to the hotel for some rest before we set out again for an enjoyable evening.

Of course, you can always just take it easy and enjoy a quiet dinner at hotel or one of the many restaurants / bars that the city has to offer.

    Day 3:
We discover the magic of crafts of Jaipur today, along with its vibrant life.
Early morning choices of unique experiences include:
Option 1: We can opt for a 2 1/2 hour walking tour /cycling tour of Jaipur city.
Option 2: We can also choose to take an early morning hot air balloon ride over the city!
Option 3: For those who like to live on the wild side, a safari to a well-protected leopard sanctuary, 10 kms from your hotel can also be arranged.

Not for nothing is Jaipur so popular with guest from all over the world! The city has it all, and then some more!
On return, and after breakfast, we visit Sanganer town. Th town is famous for hand block print textiles, blue pottery and handmade paper. We will gladly arrange visits to factories for all three unique and popular crafts of Jaipur. Afternoon is free for shopping.
Tour ends with fond farewells and drop at Jaipur airport / railway station / bus stand in the evening.

We had such fun with Madhuri, an exceptionally patient and lovely instructor who taught us three really fun dances. Despite the lack of experience we had, we came out of the class laughing and leaving with dance routines to show to our friends and family! Definitely worth it and was for sure a highlight of our trip!

Tanya

Greetings from all of us at Arya Niwas. Thank you for the feedback and for your kind words! It is nice to know that you liked bollywood dance class. I will passon your feedback to our dance instructor. Hope to see you again.
