City Palace: The City Palace complex is one of the most important landmarks in Jaipur city. Built by Sawai Jai Singh, the architecture of the palace takes inspiration from Mughal, Rajput and European architectural styles. The collection at the museum at the palace consists of Rajasthani costumes, armory & art gallery with excellent collection of miniature paintings, carpet and rare astronomical works. A notable exhibit is a pair of pure silver jars which are the largest silver vessels in the world.
Hawa Mahal: Built in 1799 A.D., Hawa Mahal is perhaps the most popular and well-known structure of Jaipur and is also referred to as ‘The Palace of Winds’. The structure that has 953 windows was part of the zenana complex from which the ladies of the royal household used to observe the processions of the city.
Jantar Mantar Observatory: Jantar Mantar Observatory is one of the 5 observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh. This world heritage site is the largest and the most well preserved out of the five. The Samrat Yantra in the complex is biggest sundial in the world. Instruments like Chakra Yantra, Dakshin Bitti Yantra, Jai Prakash Yantra are also few of the main attractions in the complex. All these instruments provide fairly accurate readings till this date.
Birla Temple (Laxmi Narayan Temple): Built in 1988 by the B.M. Birla Foundation, it is a marvelous temple made purely out of white marble. The building has three domes and is surrounded by a large garden. The walls of the temple are adorned by intricate carvings, drawings and quotes from various holy men.
Albert Hall Museum: This fine example of Indo-Saracenic style of architecture was completed in the year 1887 by architect, Sir Swinton Jacob. The museum collection is spread across ground and first floor and is divided under fifteen categories namely metal art, pottery, jewellery, garments & textiles, arms & armour, miniature paintings, musical instruments, clay art, sculptures, marble art, furniture & wooden art, carpet, international art, ivory, and coins. The museum also houses a library as well as an archive section and a café.
